It's been a long and difficult road for Lance as you can all imagine but his hard work spiritually, physically and emotionally is making a noticeable difference in his recovery process. However as he grows stronger he becomes more impatient and wants to get back to life as he once knew it and simply have some fun!
The most difficult task facing Lance at this time is to stay focused and motivated to continue this journey which does test his endurance daily. He's doing an amazing job even when he feels like throwing in the towel that true Lance spirit always prevails and he's back on track. But he needs some help from those who know him well and shared life experiences with him over the years. The few visitors he did have during this long cold Winter had a tremendous impact on his well being and it did sustain him for quite some time. But he is feeling the absence of familiar faces. Now that Spring is on it's way in Lance will flourish greatly from those friends and family who can make the time to visit him at Northeast.
The best days to visit are Saturday or Sunday. If you let me know when you plan on visiting it may coincide with one of his outings to a movie or concert and a great meal of course which he would love to share with you.
Lance needs some help while he makes this journey ~ it's getting tougher as he grows stronger cognitively. I know life is busy but please try to find some time to brighten his day. I know you will be glad you did!

I came out to visit Lance over the course of a couple days right before Christmas and was very happy and encouraged to see him. He's made great progress since the last time I saw him, which regrettably was over a year ago. How time flies!
Overall, Lance is healthier, he looks great, his spirits are high, his humor is intact, he sings along to all his favorite music and is getting stronger and more independent everyday. I attribute this to his team of helpers who take him to different appointments outside the facility and the fact that he is taking natural supplements and receiving alternative health treatments. The next step is to find the right speech therapists to help him with his communication deficits. He definitely speaks more but still has a hard time articulating his thoughts even though it's not that hard to communicate with him in person.
During my visit, I was able to go with him to see a chiropractor where he also gets a massage and a session on a vibrational exercise machine called the Wave. On another day, his personal trainer put him through an exercise regimen at the gym to strengthen his good side and his weak side in order for him to gain enough strength to be more independent. His team of helpers keep him very busy, I hear he participates in drum circles and other activities as well.
Connecting with his friends means so much to him at this time. If you can, please take the time to visit, or send him a card, call him on the phone or, if you're on Facebook, send him a message!
Little by little, Lance is slowly regaining what he has lost. It may take a while but given how far he has come so far, I know he'll get there...
Looking forward to Lance's further recovery in 2010...
Happy New Year!

Lance's Birthday
His special day was spent at Northeast with friends who did make it a happy day for him!
He is making strides~ building his vocabulary and physical strength. He is working hard to get stronger and healthier to meet his daily challenges. Lance knows how long it's been and waits for the day that he can be more independent. However that road is paved with hard work physically and emotionally. His goal is to come home sooner rather than later and he's determined to make that happen!
Lance's birthday did come and go but belated wishes, cards, phone calls and visits will always make him smile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeolpOB-12A
