Therapy with Lance

I had a wonderful visit with Lance this past Friday. When I arrived, one of his physical therapists took me to find him. He was in a group therapy called "Being Well" and a number of his fellow patients were telling their stories about how they came to be there and how their recovery was progressing. It was so interesting and uplifting to hear how people who couldn't speak or move a year ago had come so far - of course they still have a long way to go - but you can feel their hope.
This is a real inspiration to the other patients and there is a strong feeling of support. Lance became very emotional at times and so did I. I asked it if it helped him to hear others talk about what they had been through and he said that it did. Somehow, I think he didn't feel as alone as before, knowing that others were feeling some of the same things he is. He seemed to be in good spirits generally and I know he is so happy when he has company.
We looked at photos that I brought to him and I think they made him happy, even though he cried at little, remembering the past. He seems to be getting better at expressing himself- I feel like I was able to reallly communicate with him and I encourage anyone who can, to make a point of getting there to see him. It will make you as happy as it makes him. If you can't get there please e-mail me and I will try to arrange to drive some people. Even though it is far, it is a much better environment to see him in.

Hello LanceMates,

Happy to have entered Lances Blog Space!.... Thanks for your help Petrina.

I'm looking forward to visiting Lance on July 3rd. In the interim, my daughter Abby is creating a really nice card to mail to Lance. I hear he really enjoys receiving mail from friends, so until you can go visit, send him a nice card and stay in touch.

Regards,
Randy
