It was a brief stay at Helen Hayes but worthwhile on many levels. I know Lance wanted to be in the program longer but that's the way the health care system is set up if you don't show major gains in acute rehab you have to leave. He did make some gains which he will take with him as he continues his recovery at Northeast Center for Special Care. His therapist will work diligently with him to reinforce those gains in their Neurological Rehab Program.
Lance is on the same floor in a different room surrounded by his fellow neighbors who welcomed him back warmly. He is a little sad knowing he can't come home but understands his journey is long and challenging. If you can visit or call him I know it will make this adjustment back to Northeast easier. He needs to refocus, work hard and set goals for the days ahead. That is where we can all make a difference in giving him the emotional support he needs to continue to make gains and improve his quality of life.
If you would like to call Lance at Northeast the number is: (845) 336-3500 when you get their voice message press "0" and the operator will connect you to his room he doesn't have a direct extension at the moment.
Thanks for being there for your old Friend he appreciates each and everyone of you very much!
