a visit from PAM SCOTT

Sept 2, 2009

I saw Lance and he looked quite tan and well,
which I was happy to see. He's been sitting out
in the sun a lot and seems to enjoy it. I hadn't been
able to visit him in quite awhile and I was very
pleased with his progress. He has many more
sentences at his command and seems much
better at communicating. We sat outside on a
gorgeous day and sang just about every
Simon and Garfunkel song we could think of.
We laughed and had fun.

He sometimes mockingly says, "How's the weather?"
Then we had a drum circle with all the patients
run by Lance's new, good friends from the past
year Cody and Robyn. That was interesting and
everyone including Lance (and I) seemed to enjoy
themselves. It lasted like an hour and everyone
made their own music. Lance's improvements
may seem small to him, but since I hadn't been
able to see him in awhile, they seemed quite
monumentous to me.

We had a nice, enjoyable visit. I always hate
to leave, as I never know how long it will be
until I can come back to visit. He seemed to want
more calls and visits. I asked if he liked calls and he
indicated he did, but he doesn't get many. I know
I sometimes hesitate to call, not knowing if it works
etc, but it seems like it makes a real difference in
his day, so I'm going to make more of an effort to
call. Even for a moment.

It was lovely spending time with him.
I hope to do it more often.

I feel so sad that I haven't seen Lance for such a long time. Now I've read that he likes phone calls I'll make an effort to call him and have a chat. At least I can do that even if I can't get up to see him. So happy to read of his improvements - that's great! Lizzie
