Tuesday was a day filled with excitement and anticipation for my brothers departure from St. Vincent's after 9 long months. It turned out to be a very emotional and humbling experience seeing my brother leave the hospital that saved his life and became a safe haven for all his friends and family to show him their heartfelt support, love and encouragement which enabled him to leave that building upright, tearful and smiling. What a joyous sight to behold after all he has been through. He has been to places in his mind that we can't begin to imagine and fought his way back to challenges he never imagined. The stroke may have ravaged his body and brain but his spirit is strong and visible in his eyes which truly are expressive and sad at the moment for what he has lost and left behind as he left New York City to begin his new journey at Northeast.
I believe he is struggling emotionally to accept his new surroundings and the insecurities he is feeling about his days to come. However, I was pleased to see how warmly the doctors, nurses and staff welcomed Lance and showed him genuine compassion which I know he appreciated.
I'm keeping in close contact with all his new caregivers at Norhteast. I want them to know how special Lance is and even if he doesn't have frequent visitors he has tremendous support from family and friends who will do their best to see him as often as possible. The transition to Northeast is going to be an adjustment for Lance and our family. He will definitely miss seeing all his loyal freinds who kept him company and brought many a smile and tear to his face.. It's going to be difficult having a loved one so far away but we know he is ready to start his recovery and in true Lance style do it from his heart.
Thank you all again for helping Lance to reach this milestone.
Fondly,
LaVerne
